Nutrition Corner

All are invited to attend the nutrition programs. Please be sure to sign up in advance at the Reception Desk.
Counseling, workshops and classes are by Erin Hook, RD, CDN


INDIVIDUAL NUTRITION COUNSELING:
Consists of an initial one-hour client-counselor session and two thirty-minute follow-up sessions. Additional follow-ups are available at an additional charge. If you want more information about nutrition counseling, please call Erin Hook at 690-5587.

The following nutrition classes are free, thanks to the support from AstraZeneca.  Advance registration is necessary.

LEARNING ABOUT PORTION SIZES
Wednesday, May 7th 2:00pm - 2:45pm
Learn the difference between “serving size” and “portion size”. Manage your weight through portion control rather than counting calories.
 
HOW TO READ THE NUTRITION FACTS LABEL
Tuesday, May 13th 5:00pm - 5:45pm
Learn how to read nutrition facts labels, what to look for, and how to compare labels to make healthier food choices.
 
INTRODUCTION TO THE DASH DIET
Tuesday, May 20th     2:00pm - 2:45pm
The DASH diet is recommended for those with hypertension. “DASH” stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. We will go over high blood pressure, the DASH diet, and how to plan menus using the DASH eating plan.
 
 

COOKING CLASSES
 
COOKING FOR 2 OR JUST YOU
Friday, May 9th     5:30pm - 6:30pm
Tips on how to prepare healthy meals using foods in season and packed full of nutrients without producing a lot of waste. You must register for this class at the Reception Desk by Wednesday, May 7th. Cost $10, 6 people minimum, 12 people maximum.
