The Newark Senior Center is always looking for dedicated volunteers to donate their time and enthusiasm . There are many areas in which volunteers are used at the Center that involve a wide variety of interests. These include the following:

Volunteer Openings Volunteers Needed! Health and Wellness Fair - Serve as host or hostess - Stage event’s announcer - Decorate tables prior to the event Please contact Lee Perkins or attend the Health Fair volunteer meeting on MAY 8th, time tba. Part Time Bus Driver Position - The Newark Senior Center has an opening for a part time bus driver on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The position is a split shift: the first shift is from 7:45am, departing the Center by 8:00am. The second shift departs the Center at 2:00pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 1:00pm on Friday. Please ask Carla, 737-2336 x15 for more details. CDL required. Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver - We need volunteers who can donate about an hour of their time to the delivery of hot, nutritious midday meals to homebound seniors in the Newark area. Volunteers arrive at the Center between 10:30am and 11:15am to pick up the meals. Each route consists of 8 - 12 people with directions to each home. When finished delivering, volunteers return to the Center and report any absences or concerns to the Meals on Wheels staff. Weekday routes are available. You can choose to deliver once each week, every other week, once per month, or as a substitute. Volunteers should have a current drivers license, a reliable vehicle and able to carry 10lbs. Gardeners Needed - It is time once again to focus on the gardens, if anyone is interested in joining our volunteer gardeners, please contact Jessica. DO YOU HAVE KNEE ARTHRITIS? You may be eligible to participate in a paid research study at the University of Delaware Physical Therapy Department. We are looking for people who are between the ages of 40-75, are not pregnant and have been diagnosed with knee arthritis by their doctor. The study includes: knee xrays, strength testing, walking analysis and tests of sensation. You will be compensated up to $150 for your time and travel expenses. The University of Delaware Physical Therapy Department is looking for people who are 18-80 years old and have had one single stroke to participate in our research studies. We are developing new treatment programs that improve walking patterns after stroke. The study consists of a series of evaluations and a series of training sessions. You may be eligible for gait training three times a week until study completion. Newark’s 250th Anniversary Parade A huge thank you to the members who were enthusiastic ambassadors of the Center. Thank also to Eileen Thomas and the Zieglers for their time preparing the float. It was great to see so many of our members participating in various groups throughout the parade and on the sidelines as spectators. Spring Sale We appreciate all your hard work before and during the three day Spring Sale. Many thanks to everyone who donated the many items sold at the sale.
